“It was strictly forbidden to preach to other prisoners. It was understood that whoever was caught doing this received a severe beating. A number of us decided to pay the price for the privilege of preaching, so we accepted their [the communists' ] terms. It was a deal; we preached and they beat us. We were happy preaching. They were happy beating us, so everyone was happy.”
Richard Wurmbrand,
Tortured for Christ
This week our preacher preached about Heaven. It is a real place. It is going to be more beautiful than we can ever imagine. And the hope we have of going there should give us reason and strength to be better Christians here on Earth. If just thinking about Heaven doesn't give me enough motivation to want to catch fire for Jesus, I read the seven letters in Revelation that He gave John for the churches. Here is just one snippet:
"To the angel of the church in Laodicea write:
These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation. I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth."
