The boys have been our's for 1 year this month. They no longer do things like open the car door when the car is moving, shave bald spots in their heads, pee on the school playground, stick their tongue out at the teacher or totally disobey me (Boone just did that in China, but after we rolled around a restaurant bathroom floor he stopped).
Boone writes me a lot of notes.
This says -- My favorite part of the day is bedtime because my mom says she loves me and kisses me.
Boone: "I need my bike fixed"
Me: "I know. I'm going to talk to your Dad about it."
Boone: "My Dad? He is your Dad too ... remember? That is why you sleep with him and always kissing him."
Boone and Pryor both have a long way to go before they get caught up completely with their English, but they are definitely testing and trying out words -- they just don't always get the right ones.
Boone: "This show is horrible!"
Me: "I thought you liked it."
Boone: "I do."
Lyric and Boone share a birthday which is fitting since they both have similar personalities.
Boating with our school superintendent. Boone came back and said, "Now I know how to drive."
Last week I decided to pick both boys up early from school to get their flu shots.
Me: "Can I have the boys? I am taking them to get their flu shots."
Nurse: "Can you send Pryor down? His Mom is here."
ESL teacher: "Is everything OK?! When I told Pryor you were here he freaked out."
Me (dryly): "Pryor why did you freak out?"
Pryor: "The last time you were here I got in lots of trouble."
Pryor was referring to a year ago. It was his first week of school and he had been in the U.S. just a few days. He had been so bad his principal thought he needed time to stress down. It didn't turn out the way Pryor had planned, because I'm not as understanding as his principal. I made him sit in the garage all afternoon and read his Chinese Bible. That was the last time Pryor was ever bad at school. Well, almost -- I think he drew a picture that was not school appropriate--the picture didn't really bother me, but there are things appropriate for school and things appropriate at home. The boys had to learn the difference-fast!
Boone likes to follow me around, but Pryor likes to follow Stafan and Shepard around.
The pictures below were all in China when we were adopting them.
Me meeting Pryor for the first time.
Pryor's first meal with me and we went to an American style restaurant right outside our hotel.
Mike's first meal with Boone.
Help! An American man has me!
And with gas prices as high as they are we might all be using these pretty soon.
Mike and Boone's taxi ride to the airport. They were flying to Guangzhou to meet up with Pryor and me.
Mike and Boone flying to Guangzhou to meet up with us.
It was so funny, because the boys both hopped in the back of the van and immediately started talking. Our guide said they were discussing how their lives had been and what Boone's plane ride was like.
This is the view of Guangzhou from the top of Bai Yun Mountain.
Taking the gondola up the mountain.
Enjoying their first frappucinos on Shamian Island (which is part of Guangzhou)
Coke Zero in China just isn't the same as Diet Coke here...but you take what you can get.
