Part 4 of our vacation
Are you perplexed by the fact that St. Augustine, FLA is the oldest city in the USA, but the oldest house in the nation is in Santa Fe? I'm no history buff, but this is what I'm told. As I understand it, St. Augustine may be the oldest continuously occupied European city in the United States, but its original structures have vanished as have most structures built by the original Indian inhabitants of what is now the United States. So while the City of St. Augustine may be older than the City of Santa Fe, the oldest house in Santa Fe is older than any house in St. Augustine--or anywhere else in the country for that matter. Clear as mud? Good, because that is basically what the oldest house in Santa Fe looks like it is made of.
