Happy belated Valentines Day! I'm reading other blogs that say this is one of their favorite holidays. Well let me go on record as saying Valentine is one of my least favorite. I mean my Sweetheart was great. He took me out to dinner, got me flowers and my favorite Godiva candy. But he does all that anyway. LOL The reason I'm not big on Valentines day is well... it's in February. My least favorite month of the year. Basically, I just want it to come and go. The faster the better.
Lyric picked these out for herself.
Darby was making this as part of her Mom's Valentine present.
"You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect".
Matthew 5:43-48
Mike's friend sent him, straight from Louisiana, our first ever Mardi Gras King Cake. Pretty cool when you live in Indianapolis. : - )
The king cake tradition is thought to have been brought to New Orleans from France in 1870. A King Cake is an oval-shaped bakery delicacy, crossed between a coffee cake and a French pastry that is as rich in history as it is in flavor. It's decorated in royal colors of PURPLE which signifies "Justice," GREEN for "Faith," and GOLD for "Power." These colors were chosen to resemble a jeweled crown honoring the Wise Men who visited the Christ Child on Epiphany. In the past such things as coins, beans, pecans, or peas were also hidden in each King Cake.
Today, a tiny plastic baby is the common prize. At a party, the King Cake is sliced and served. Each person looks to see if their piece contains the "baby." If so, then that person is named "King" for a day and bound by custom to host the next party and provide the King Cake.
Mardi Gras Day has a moveable date and may occur on any Tuesday from February 3rd to March 9th. It is always the day before Ash Wednesday, and always falls 46 days before Easter.
I bought this vintage lunchbox just for looks. I loved it and apparently Lyric did too because she talked me into it. Sometimes she lets Boone use it. I have a feeling he's hard on it so I might tell him to stop using it. : - )
He says to the snow, 'Fall on the earth,' and to the rain shower, 'Be a mighty downpour.' 7So that everyone he has made may know his work, he stops all people from their labor. 8The animals take cover; they remain in their dens. 9The tempest comes out from its chamber, the cold from the driving winds. 10The breath of God produces ice, and the broad waters become frozen.
Job 37:6-10
Mike decided to take some of the girls with belated Birthdays to Lucky Lou's. I stayed home. It's a little too authentic for me! And after visiting China nine times, I know authentic.
Remi and her chicken feet. Eeewww...
Duck
Now Cokie did get a little/lot freaked when she read Hunan as Human. LOL
But, not near as good as our friend's very delicious meal. She had us "all" over for a homecooked Chinese meal! We so enjoyed it. She was raised in China and can cook!
