It's Sunday!

I really, really like and respect our pastor.  Today he preached on "WHY BAPTISM?"  So, you might be interested in reading some of his outline.  You know just in case you ever wondered - and if you haven't you probably should. : - )

1 John 5:3 This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome...

IN BAPTISM GOD MEETS OUR NEED to express our faith.  Acts 2:22-24;36-38

“Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. 23 This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men,[a] put him to death by nailing him to the cross. 24 But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.

IN BAPTISM GOD MEETS OUR NEED for cleansing Mark 7:21-23
21 For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, 22 adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. 23 All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”

IN BAPTISM GOD MEETS OUR NEED for a benchmark.  Romans 6:1-4
What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?" By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

IN BAPTISM GOD MEETS OUR NEEDS to be humbled.
There is intellectual pride.
There is social pride.
There is selfish pride.

After church we about always go out to dinner with my sister and her family.
